Why "English Electric Growl" you may ask yourself?
Simple, the subject of this website is the 12CSV Diesel engine designed and originally constructed by the English Electric Co, then Ruston Paxman. The "Growl" comes from the sound made by the British Built Class 37's locomotives, often known as "Growlers" by the railway enthusiasts. Both names were put together and the result was the name of this site,
ENGLISH ELECTRIC GROWL.
As can be seen through this website, the engine was not solely used for Rail Traction purposes, but also found use in marine applications and as prime movers for static back-up generators. If you think you can help us with information, please contact us
here.
We are always looking for information and photographs in this diesel engines in Traction, Marine or Static use. Do you think that you can provide anything that could be used? If you can, please contact us via the
contact page.
It has recently been decided to reduce overheads as far as the web is concerned, this will NOT affect 'English Electric Growl', but the forum, Guestbook and 'The Growlette' have all been removed as a result. One or two of these will return in a slightly different format in the future.
